student stories

AMINAT

“Coming to Albion was an incredible experience for me, and I was so fortunate to have Mark as my tutor. What really stood out was his patience and understanding. I had so many questions, especially around shaping and the mathematics involved in knitwear, but he always took the time to guide me through everything clearly.

I first discovered Albion Knitting School through CapitB, a textile funding group connected to UKFT that supports students looking to enter the manufacturing industry. They introduced me to Albion, which is not only an educator but also a luxury knitwear manufacturer.

As someone who is largely self-taught in knitting, having the opportunity to work on STOLL machines was invaluable. I was initially intimidated because of my limited experience, but Mark and the team at Albion made the whole process approachable and easy to understand. I’ve taken away so much from my time at the school.

My time at Albion Knitting School has reignited my passion for knitwear and inspired me to specialise in knitwear design and development”

ELENA, NEW ERA CAP

“This course gave me a much better understanding of the technical side of knitwear, from yarns and construction through to different knit techniques and embellishments. It was especially valuable to learn how these elements connect to production, costings and timelines, helping me better understand the full development process.

What really stood out was the opportunity to discuss real-life manufacturing examples with a luxury knitwear manufacturer, which made the learning practical, engaging and highly relevant to my role as a designer. Giovanna was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and supportive throughout the course, and the hands-on approach made the experience both inspiring and informative.”

Imogen & Gemma, Kingston University

Albion Knitting School gave us a much deeper understanding of the knitwear industry than we could have gained through university alone. The course helped us connect every stage of the development process—from programming and garment construction to product development and manufacturing—showing how each part contributes to creating a successful knitwear collection. Whether your passion lies in technical programming, product development or design, the knowledge and practical experience you gain gives you a much broader perspective of the industry. We left with greater confidence, a stronger technical foundation, and a far better understanding of how to collaborate across different roles within professional knitwear manufacturing.”
